As long as I can remember I was always in love with movement – FAST movement! I was the girl that always wanted to keep up with the boys. Gym was my favorite class in grammar school and I loved each year when it was time to take the fitness test where you had to climb to the top of the rope, do as many sit-ups as you could in a minute and hold your chin over the bar for what seemed like an eternity. Every year I looked forward to this physical test, and every year I got that award!
As an adult I found a love for running and would do 5K’s for fun. I’d go for a run at night 4-5 times a week. When I was looking to switch it up a bit, I joined a gym and learned how to lift weights, so off the treadmill I came and onto the weight floor I went. This combination of running and weightlifting became an instant love and so I decided to become a personal trainer!
After a very short time, I found myself not wanting to use the weight machines anymore but really wanting to do more with weighted bars and plyometrics. I became creative with my workouts, trying to keep them constantly varied and always a challenge. Then I found CrossFit.
CrossFit is constantly varied, functional movement performed at a high intensity. What does this mean? This means that I can once again be that girl who climbs to the top of the rope, and does as many sit-ups/pull-ups as I can in a certain amount of time! This means that I can train like the athlete that I’ve always known was in me, that I believe is in everyone, waiting to be found. I have found a way to let the child in me come back out to play just a bit faster and just a bit stronger. I am always up for the next challenge and ready to take it – I am CrossFit!
Growing up with 2 brothers, I’ve always been active. My brothers and I spent much of our childhood playing sports in the yard, wrestling each other, or chasing each other through department stores full of delicate merchandise, to my Mother’s great shame. In High School, I played soccer, and in College, I got into weightlifting. At the time, I was hooked only on “bro-lifts”: bench press, bicep curls, and a chronic neglect of leg day. Feeling bored and aimless with my routine after college, I tried a local CrossFit box in 2012. Despite my pitiful first attempts at power cleans (more like reverse curls at that point), I knew that I had found something special. Ever since, I have become obsessed with CrossFit, not only for how uniquely difficult the “wods” are, but also because of the community. The community forged in the box reminds me of the Biblical proverb “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another” (Proverbs 27:17). We all grow stronger here by encouraging one another.
I got my coaching certification in 2014 with the hopes of coaching in the near future, so when I was given the opportunity to do so at MCCF, it was a no-brainer for me. I hope to play a small part in encouraging and pushing each of you toward your individual goals.

Joc received her Level One Crossfit Cert in September 2014 after returning home from Basic Training and AIT for the CT Army National Guard. She played D1 Rugby at Providence College, was a long distance runner, and started Crossfit in March of 2013. She loves to lift heavy and her two favorite parts of Crossfit are the ability to train at it as a sport and the community at Midcoast Crossfit who have become her second family. She obtained her Crossfit Mobility Cert in January and plans on getting her USAW within the next year.

Not your typical athlete, I spent my childhood dancing in recitals and riding horses. Throughout college, and well after, I found a love for fitness. I joined a standard gym and used every possible calorie-burning cardio contraption I could get my hands on! After years of this, I found myself in the gym-slump. I was (too) skinny, and tired of logging hours on the treadmill, pedaling along on the elliptical, and avoiding the gym’s weight room at all costs. Then, in 2010 I found CrossFit.
CrossFit changed my perception of what being healthy and fit truely is. The constantly varied element of CrossFit is the perfect recipe for success and keeps the body and mind guessing. The camaraderie among our athletes is what keeps people coming back for more. Since finding crossfit I have developed the best body, mind and friendships than I could have ever imagined. I am passionate about helping people reach their personal goals within our walls of Midcoast Crossfit. I am honored to be apart of the coaching staff and as a team, we cannot wait to help you create the healthiest version of you! Xo

I found my niche and my passion for Crossfit back in 2010, and it has only grown. As an athlete over 40, I think it is even more gratifying to embrace a challenging WOD, see it through and do better than I anticipated. After years of going to a gym and being stuck in “routine” work outs, this has provided me the challenge and “push” that every athlete deserves. The comradery and environment is an added extra bonus!!
Encouraging and working out with Masters athletes is so fulfilling, watching people work through long time injuries and try a new sport, is in my opinion just as exciting as watching the young elite athlete crush a WOD. Knowing that nothing is impossible but it is only dedication and hard work that gets you there is a lesson I have learned over and over again in life; and fitness is no different. I believe that no success feels as rewarding as success that we have worked for and Crossfit is the perfect forum!
It’s my desire to show the Crossfit Community that age is just a number and provide an environment of continued learning, positivity and competition!

I was always an active person, although traditional sports were not my modus operandi. I skied, backpacked, and, much to the chagrin of my parents, free-climbed as well as any other outdoor activity that I could find. In 2002, I joined the Army where I became a paratrooper and was discharged in 2005. After several years of not being fit, I was led to Crossfit and instantly became hooked. The group dynamic and camaraderie of the classes reminded me of the best part of the military.
Four years after joining Midcoast, I have become stronger and faster than I have ever thought possible. Now, I have the pleasure of working with some the best coaches and athletes I have ever known. Watching individuals grow as athletes and the community grow is awe inspiring to say the least.

I come from active and varied life growing up in Western Mass I rock climbed, hiked and skied regularly then I moved to NYC for 18 years to be a professional photographer. These days I can be found at Midcoast Crossfit training endurance athletes. I have hundreds of events under my belt including marathons, ultramarathons, Spartan races and Goruck Challenges. I would love to be able to help you complete your athletic dreams.

I have been involved with sports since I was about 8 years old , I played soccer, baseball, basketball, and rowed crew. After high school I started working out at home with dumbbells and a trx, but after a while I hit a wall and couldn’t push myself anymore. I heard about crossfit from a friend and figured I would give it a try. The next week I was at Midcoast for my first on ramp ……I was hooked after one class. I have played sports for many years and for me, nothing compares to the feeling of accomplishment when you hear that clock beep at the end of a wod and you know, you have given that workout everything you had. I spent the next year as a regular at Midcoast. One day I was introduced to former Midcoast barbell head coach Riky Jakobsohn . I started attending some barbell classes to try improve my Olympic lifts, it only took a couple classes to see that I wanted to focus on Olympic lifting and train to compete. I have now gone on to get my USAW Sports Performance Coaching Certification and have competed in local meets. I am currently training with head coach of Team CT Gary Valentine and am continuing to train to compete.I have met so many great people from Midcoast and am glad I scheduled my first on ramp. I never thought I was going to become a coach. But when I’m at the box and see a new lifter excel though the progressions of the lifts or an experienced lifter make one small adjustment and hit that new PR….that’s what makes me proud to be a coach at Midcoast.

Zack has always been involved in competitive athletics as long as he can remember. While attending Xavier High School, he ran 2 years of varsity track as a sprinter and played 4 years of baseball while achieving all state honors and captain honors as a senior. Zack went on to play collegiate baseball: a year at Umass Amherst and 3 years at Eastern Connecticut State University in which he was granted the opportunity to play in the College World Series for 2 years in a row. During summer breaks throughout college, he played on collegiate baseball leagues traveling around the United States. Zack graduated from ECSU with a B.S. In health and physical education and minor in exercise science.
After college, a hand injury ended a possible season at the independent level of baseball. Still with the need for knowledge of exercise science, Zack pursued a year-long intensive internship program as a Performance Specialist at Athletes Performance (professional strength and conditioning company) in Tempe, Arizona. While in Arizona, Zack assisted in the stretching, prehabbing, rehabbing, and strength training of professional athletes.
Zack has over 7 years of personal training experience and 8 years of high school/legion baseball coaching. Zack currently works in the Department of Correction for the State of Connecticut as a Recreational Supervisor. Zack brings his passion for fitness to Midcoast Crossfit with enthusiasm and a smile, finding great pleasure in helping and motivating athletes to achieve their health and wellness goals.
